haha pei said something quite sometime ago about this so here's food for thought (hehe no pun intended)
buffet or ala carte
which do you prefer?
buffets seem more fun somehow, the idea that you're given choice, that you can pick whatever you want. if you like it, take some more, if you don't, just stop. but it also seems as though there is not much QC in the process. you don't necessarily love what you're eating (with sushi buffets being an exception) that much and sometimes you overeat just to make the whole idea of a buffet 'worthwhile'. i mean what's the point of going for a buffet where you only pick one dish right.. might as order ala carte then..
but then that's the thing about ordering ala carte dishes. the dish maybe something you've always like, like spaghetti bolognaise. but different places cook the same dish differently. what do you do when midway through the meal you realise that it really sucks yet you don't wanna waste the food, but it becomes a tad too torturous to finish?
haha ah well, tis life isn't it?
full of questions and question marks ^-^
hehe c'est la vie :)

i credit the following article to the author of
http://inneractor.blogspot.com/Amanda Bynes began professionally acting at the age of seven, and at age thirteen became the star of her own tv series The Amanda Show.
Bynes says she understands the feeling of being an outsider, one of the themes of the film "Hairspray" - in which she plays Penny."
I grew up having terrible acne and feeling insecure," she once told an interviewer. "I was tall and skinny. I didn't feel pretty at all, and guys didn't even like me. That's why I got into comedy."[Interview mag., July 2007; photo from "Hairspray"]
Many talented comedians and comic actors acknowledge there is a dark side to being funny."Deep, deep depression is the flip side of comedy.
Casting agents don't realize it but in order to be funny you have to have that other side."
People - even highly gifted and accomplished, with Academy Awards etc - often have insecurities, impostor feelings and other anxieties, maybe in part because of high sensitivity.
Lesley Sword, director of Gifted and Creative Services [in Australia] finds that certain children are “highly self critical and over reactive to the criticism of others. They express dissatisfaction with themselves; they see what ‘ought to be’ in themselves... They have a vision of perfectionism that they measure themselves against and they can become despondent sometimes even depressed, at their perceived failure.”
true arh.. but who would have thought amanda bynes, one teen actress who is rather normal in comparison to many of her Hollywood counterparts, and who is (if i may add) a brilliant comedian (albeit slapstick sometimes) to actually come forward to say she can be insecure. haha but wait if she's being all forthcoming like that, does that mean she's secure about being insecure? and if so, does that not make her insecure anymore? hmmmmmmm...........
ah wells hehe,
c'est la vie!

in the past i always used others as a gauge for my level of political awareness and honestly, next to a lot of people i know i rank quite low in terms of interest and excitement level when it comes to politics.
i know im a pragmatist
largely influenced by my parents i think
but it's not like i don't concern myself with issues
like i largely disapprove of the war in iraq because it was waged on invalid grounds and thus the lives of hundreds of thousands were lost for careless reasons. i feel sad for the people in sudan and sorry for the people in Japan who've had their pension 'lost'. i feel for issues such as women's rights, abuse, discrimination, exploitation etc
but are those more of a social concerns or a political ones?
im not the siao on type who follows parliament and neither am i the type who has viciously strong opinions on stuff like the death penalty or the paternalistic stance that the government stakes so does that make me more moderate than apathetic? sigh.. labels are confounding...
in this case does being politically apathetic = being self-centered then? im confused
maybe ive just developed a resignation towards the fact that life's just like that
haha oh well, i think whatever i am, and whatever i call myself it really doesnt matter cuz (to borrow a cliche) im just being me (which hopefully isnt a bad thing) ^-^

i thank venerable kuan yuan for her wonderful anecdote.
a lil girl had the opportunity to make a wish so she wished that she would be forever happy. people noticed her sunny disposition and asked her how she managed to stay happy all the time. but she always simply said that it was very easy.
eventually the lil girl grew up, got old but still maintained her close circle of friends.
in their old age they continued to ask her what her secret was.
eventually, she said "It's very simple really. Happiness is derived from how much you give. The more you give, the happier you'll be."
