gossip
noun
1.
light informal conversation for social occasions
2.
a report about the behavior of other people
3.
a person given to gossiping and divulging personal information about others
was sitting on the shuttle bus today from home to hougang mall when i heard some aunt agony type advice come up on the radio. then it struck me on why whole idea of gossip proves to be enticing for people (oh the btw is that the aunt agony thingy reminded me of gossip girl and got me reviewing past few episodes of it in my head).
simply because information is power (muahahaha COM202)
in COM202 we learnt that information helps people take more control over their lives, aiding in day-to-day operational competencies and ultimately helps individuals make more informed choices.
but most importantly i feel when an individual possesses information, he or she has an intangible power, and the force of the power is exerted when the piece of information is passed on.
like in gossip girl ^-^
but GG aside, it happens in our daily life as well. Just that cause we do it so often, we don't often realise the power exchange when it comes to gossip. Of course, the whole power thing is absolutely harmless unless of course you do it in a Blair Waldorf way hehe.
and through that power though gossip obviously provides a source of bonding between individuals who possess the piece of information. sort of like a sharing of power.
besides, if done appropriately, gossip is indeed a fun activity between friends with no negative repercussions whatsoever. but keyword of course is appropriately la hehe
