Haha kz..not really feeling a poetic vibe..so being inspired by Faridah's stories i decided to write this..not exactly anything new la..storyline pretty much predictable but it's my 1st attempt at writing something since prelims last yr so don't flame that badly even if it really sucks..hehe yup but constructive criticism is welcomed..
Behind Two Pairs of EyesZacharyThe last bell for the day rang and students flooded out of their classes. Zachary closed his locker and heaved a sigh of relief. Slinging his backpack over the shoulder, he declined various invitations for movies and dinner.
Walking out of school, a couple of juniors saw him and giggled, flashing him mega-watt smiles. But he wasn’t the least moved. He simply looked at his weather-beaten watch and quickened his pace
Zachary was by all means one of the most sought after guy in the school. Some compared him to a Greek god, with chiselled features and brooding eyes that just see through you. Girls fantasise about playing with his tousled mahogany hair, which always seems to fall into place regardless of time and place. And there was even a story going around about how though he seldom smiles, when he does the room he's in just lights up. Captain of the basketball team and a straight A student, Zachary couldn't be more perfect. But time after time, even advances from the even belles of the school were rejected. Some people doubted the nature of his sexuality but others, especially the female population in school, were even more attracted to him due to his nonchalance. He had become an enigma that girls wanted to solve so much. Though fully aware of all that, he didn't care.
Feeling drowsy, he paid no attention to the girl who was running at top speed in his direction.
"BAM!"
The collision jolted Zachary from his semi-comatose state.
"What the –"
On seeing a pair of the most soulful eyes, he froze and stopped himself from exploding in expletives. Glancing at his watch, which was now broken, he swore under his breath and muttered a meagre apology before running off.
Moments later, Zachary entered a dilapidated apartment. Zachary realised that the dripping sound of water had grown over the past few days and that something had to be done about it. Same goes for the bad condition of the walls. But that had to wait till tomorrow.
He made mental notes to pick up the groceries for his mother and a cup of coffee before heading off for the graveyard shift at the convenience store, then he slumped on the mattress, pleased that he would have it to himself for a couple of hours until his brother gets back from work at the café.
Zachary thought about the owner of the pair of soulful eyes and wondered if he would ever see her again. But even that had to wait. He closed his weary eyes and smiled to himself thinking, "Yup, leaky plumbing and peeling wallpaper, that's just home" before drifting off into a deep slumber.
